Opinião do álbum

This compilation of some hits by the late Tim Maia, the biggest soul singer in Brazil, makes it easy to trace his evolution as a superb singer. It covers the period from 1970, the year of his first LP (which stayed at the top of the hit parade in Rio for 24 weeks) to 1984, and is complemented with material from subsequent albums (he died in 1998, and sung until the very end). While his later recordings reveal a mature and technical singer who has reached the full potential of his voice, especially in the low region, the older cuts evidence a swinging and energetic performer. Included are the biggest hits from the first LP, "Primavera," "Azul da Cor do Mar," and "Coroné Antônio Bento"; from Tim Maia Vol. II (1971), "Não Quero Dinheiro," "Chocolate," "Você," "A Festa do Santo Reis," and "Não Vou Ficar"; from Tim Maia Vol. III (1972), "O Que Me Importa"; and from Tim Maia Vol. IV (1973), "Gostava Tanto de Você" and "Réu Confesso." From there, the compilation jumps to the year of 1980, with "Nosso Adeus," missing one of his biggest hits, "Sossego" (1978, Warner, Tim Maia Disco Club); then it jumps to Descobridor dos Sete Mares (1983), with the title track and "Motivo." The rest of the total of 20 songs aren't that expressive.

The father of Brazilian soul music, Tim Maia never hid his true nature from his fans, his prospective employers, or the law. Iconoclastic, ironic, outspoken, polemical (but always humorous), and openly addicted to cocaine and marijuana, he was known for lightheartedly missing appointments and even big-time gigs, and also for being boycotted by recording companies, major TV networks such as Globo, and other media that didn't swallow his disturbing presence. With his potent and flexible baritone...
