Opinião do álbum

After proving their mettle with a pair of impressive, independently released EPs, Germany's Wolfchant pledged their pagan metal services to the Massacre label before releasing their official debut album, 2005's evocatively named Bloody Tales of Disgraced Lands. This immediately consolidated their standing within this especially popular heavy metal subgenre thanks to a consistent set of songs, combining a typically Teutonic flair for mellifluous guitar melodies with harsh, atonal vocals usually favored by the Scandinavian bands of this ilk. Together, these disparate elements forged an unlikely truce that made it possible for infectious but still appealingly evil highlights like "Clan of the Cross," "Mourning Red," and "Clankiller" to attract power metal and extreme metal fans alike. Add to this a raft of wicked pagan/occult/battle lyric images that metal fans of any stripe can appreciate (hey, that's a sword emerging from a stream on the album's cover, or didn't you notice?), plus the fact that Wolfchant's ever twisting folk-metal melodies are generally offset with enough staccato and counterpoint riffing to spare listeners from visions of elves line-dancing (except on "Of Honor and Pride" and "Praise to All"), and it's no wonder Bloody Tales of Disgraced Lands enjoyed some "crossover" success.

The following year marked the release of two demos ( "The Fangs of the Southern Death" and "The Herjan Trilogy" ) that helped...
