About Alfredo Dias Gomes

Brother of the singer Denise Emmer and of trumpeter Guilherme Dias Gomes, Alfredo Dias Gomes debuted as a professional in 1978 in Hermeto Pascoal's band to record Cérebro Magnético. Also with Pascoal, Gomes performed in the II Jazz Festival of São Paulo and in the Rio Monterey Festival. His first solo work was the single "Serviço Secreto," recorded in 1985. Two years later, he became a regular member of Ivan Lins' band, remaining with Lins until 1993. With Lary Wilhans and Brenda Russel, Dias Gomes toured Brazil, Japan, England, France, Germany, and Italy. Having worked as a session man with top instrumental artists like Márcio Montarroyos, Nico Assumpção, Leo Gandelman, Luizão Maia, and many others, he also backed pop/MPB composers/interpreters Lulu Santos, Ritchie, Morais Moreira, and Zé Renato. Having been in the first formation of Heróis da Resistência, he launched his first solo CD in 1991, Alfredo Dias Gomes, followed by Atmosfera (1996), with the participation of Frank Gambale. ~ Alvaro Neder
