uTeach is a productivity application for teachers. Developed by a teacher, for teachers, it integrates many of the administrative tasks teachers are faced with from day to day.
uTeach is primarily a classroom management tool, it allows you to quickly take a class roll, check your timetable, and find the location of other teachers and students around the school. In addition to these classroom tasks, uTeach also allows you to take attendance of any group within the school. uTeach also integrates with the Linea-pro barcode scanner for iPod Touch to allow high speed attendance taking using barcoded student cards.
uTeach is part of an overall school management system and it integrates with existing management software for data maintenance. uTeach links to the school database via simple web pages and communicates information back to the system via email so the hand held devices can continue to work whether network access is available or not. All communications are done via encrypted data transfer.
To be fully functional uTeach requires a school's IT department to make data available via a web interface and to put in place email processing for incoming data. Contact the developer via email for further details on how to do this for your school. For demonstration purposes, a fictitious school has been created so the software's functionality can be seen.
Access to student demographic, medical and learning support information is available, but in a controlled manner. Access can be granted to teachers to only see demographic information whilst at school, and only for the students they teach; for other staff members perhaps no access is needed, while for pastoral care staff access to all students' details may be appropriate. A simple range of school controlled settings regulates access.
