Vangelis at His Best - Again!

Vangelis has always done spectacularly wonderful movie scores, and this one is another gem. The music is complex and deep, revealing more details with each listening. As with his score for "The Bounty," Vangelis's "1492" score evokes the majesty and wonder of exploration, while weaving in tones of dread and unexpected tragedy. The haunting track "Pinta, Nina, Santa Maria (Into Eternity) is worth the price of the entire album.

I was browsing around in iTunes, thinking of great music I knew but didn't have and this soundtrack came to mind. I haven't heard it in a LONG time but I am very glad to be listening again. I agree with the first reviewer about the track 'Pinta, Nina, Santa Maria (Into Eternity)' being worth the purchase. It is as I remember: totally magical & dreamy. Other highlights include: 'Conquest of Paradise', 'West Across the Ocean Sea' (feels like you are sailing/floating), 'Light and Shadow' (uplifting choral), 'Hispanola' (spooky choral, amazing though), 'City of Isabel' and 'Twenty Eighth Parallel.' The entire soundtrack is great: airy, rich, exotic, broody.  Adventure, unknown and discovery could not have been better conveyed.

Vengelis rocks! That music sounds swell to my ears!

Vangelis déchire! Très belle musique!

Born Evangelos Odyssey Papathanassiou in Volos, Greece on March 29, 1943, his nascent musical talent was recognized at an early age, but he refused to take piano lessons, instead teaching himself. After high school he formed the early-'60s pop group Formynx, soon the most popular act in Greece. After achieving stardom at home, Vangelis...
