The Thinking Children's CD

I stumbled across this album in Staff Favourites, and it certainly deserves a strong recommendation. Not many of my four-year old’s CDs will cause her to ask, “Daddy, what’s DNA?” but Ablum did just that. Each track is carefully written from a child’s point of view, with themes ranging from childhood angst (Yr Mama), to the meaning of life (Lament of the House Rabbit), all set to great music. In fact, I found myself pulling up Ablum on my iPod’s playlist at work. Musical styles range from Ska (DNA) to dancefloor disco (Mr. Slim), to gentle ballads (Dear Emily). Even the last track (Pooing and Peeing) is a great free association song that always has the entire family laughing. Although it sounds adult-oriented, Ablum is aimed directly at children, with no adult themes or innuendos. Even tracks that I dismissed (Best Little Boy) are a hit – especially with my one and a half year old son. Who knows, maybe after listening to Ablum, your children will end up asking you why 6x8 = 8x6?
