Just gets better with age!

Renee Olstead's last album was very good, and really incredible if you take into account the fact that she was only 14 at the time of recording. Now at 19, her voice is *stunning*. It still has that girlish quality to it, but it has also taken on a new depth, strength, and subtly smokey warmth that Olsetad isn't afraid to use. Sklark dips more into upbeat, bluesy/folksy tinged songs than the pop jazz standards in her last album. While I'm definitely not a country fan, I found that my some of my favourite tracks included the country-leaning ballads like "Hold Me Now" and "Nothing But the Blame". (Both incredible!) It's like David Foster finally figured out "Hey, dynamics are interesting!" and found a singer with the pipes to handle them. Olstead's voice shows great control, whether in a full belt-it-from-your-belly way ("Midnight Man", "Midnight in Austin Texas"), a coquettish croon ("My Baby Just Cares For Me"), or a breathy heart-tugging wail ("Nothing But the Blame"). I can't stop listening to this album. I've waited 5 long years for this release, and though I imagine the albums will come faster now that she's out of school, if it takes another 5 years to get something this amazing, I will gladly wait!

Renee is Back and Better than Before!

Renee has proven once again that she is a force to be reckoned with! This album showcases her talent perfectly. It's quite different than her last album, since there are more jazzy dance-like songs. Overall worth purchasing the whole album!
