Thrice's Magnum Opus

The Alchemy Index Vol. I & II comprises the first half of what is, highly likely to be, one of the most ambitious and amazing projects you'll ever hear. That doesn't mean it's perfect - you'll like some songs more than others, to be sure - but as a whole this is the most breathtaking album I've ever listened to. I'm serious; sit down with an open mind and listen to both discs uninterrupted. Follow Kensrue's lyrics while you listen. If these discs don't resonate with you, nothing will. As should be obvious, this is not a simple CD. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't have the time or patience for it. It yields something new every time you listen to it. Sonically both discs are solid representations of their elements. Listening to one enhances the other. They are utterly different but perfect compliments. Lyrically, Kensrue is still a genius. It's not even flattery anymore. He's been doing this for so long that it's simply a fact. There is so much to say about an album like this that it's pointless to even start, so I'll finish by saying this; This is Thrice's magnum opus. You owe it to yourself to listen.

Another incredibly ground breaking album.

The Alchemy Index is a chillingly, creative masterpiece. The idea of releasing 4 themed albums alone is worthy of creative praise, but the unique sound and skillfull songwriting is even more. Fire is the next step after Vehissu, with intensity and passion. Water is a unique experimental opus; chilling and downright brilliant at times. Thrice continues to pave the way for a new genre that is creating shockwaves throughout the industry. Its the kind of album that will remain in my playlist for years to come. The Arsonist, The Flame Deluge are personal favorites on FIRE Digital Sea, Open Water, Night Diving, and The Whaler are favorites notable on WATER

Biography

Formed: 1998 in Irvine, CA

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

The post-hardcore quartet Thrice formed in 1998 in Irvine, California. Guitarist/vocalist Dustin Kensrue, guitarist Teppei Teranishi, bassist Eddie Breckenridge, and drummer Riley Breckenridge all knew each other from high school and the neighborhood skate park, and the usual round of practices, music competitions, and local gigs helped hone their new band's sound. By late 1999, Thrice had amassed enough material to cut a proper record. Working with Death by Stereo's Paul Miner, the quartet recorded...
