iTunes Review

In the mid-'00s, British singer Estelle made a name for herself with her no-nonsense, kitchen-sink approach to 21st-century soul. Shine established her as one of R&B’s premier talents at both singing and genre-melding, with her bubbly, confident voice tackling reggae (on the sunshine-bright “No Substitute Love” and the feather-light “Come Over”), hip-pop (the strutting “In the Rain”), and the tightly wound funk of her Kanye West-assisted, breakthrough hit, “American Boy.”

Shine more than American Boy

I bought Estelle's Shine because I really like the American Boy single with Kanye West. After listening to the album several times I have a number of songs that I like even better than American Boy. Estelle's voice at times reminds me of Lauryn Hill, other times India Arie and on a few tracks Lily Allen. I shouldn't have hesitated purchasing this, with John Legend as the producer you can't go wrong. There isn't one song that I skip past which is pretty rare for me.

You can't beat $7.92. Buy It!
