Editors’ Notes

Eminem is supported by a cadre of veteran producers who provide The Marshall Mathers LP with many of its most exhilarating moments. 45 King loops a Dido sample to unexpectedly mesmerizing effect on “Stan” while Dr. Dre drapes large portions of the The Marshall Mathers LP in impeccable, shimmering production. The Marshall Mathers LP a true classic.

A Turning Point For Hip-Hop

If you listen to this album with little attention, you probably won`t get past the disgusting, profanity that the album is chock full of. However, if you take the time to have a good honest listen to it, you will be able to take in the underlying message Marshall has put into every single one of his tracks. One of the primary emotions shown in this album is his profound anger, directed at more than a handful of people. The vulgarity just emphasises what he`s saying. I`ll admit, at some points, he takes his content to quite a vile level, but that`s one of the aspects of `Slim Shady`` that makes him so influencial in the hip-hop world. He went places, lyrically, that some of the previous rap deities (Tupac Shakur, Christopher Wallace etc.) hadn`t even considered - to the point, where even the uncensored version of the record was (ironically) censored. Honestly, mere months after the Columbine massacre, and he spitting lines such as: Ì`ll take seven kid from Columbine, and stand èm all in line. Add an AK-47, a revolver, a 9 mm ...`` - I`m Back This, and other portions of his songs, had to be removed from the album. But he knows his marketing strategy. And one of the best ways to get attention these days is to be a crude and vile as possible. Even now, 5 years later, this album is still ground breaking. If Hip-Hop isn`t you style of music, you probably won`t enjoy it at the level that rap fans do, but even so, I think everyone who can look past the cussing and shallow phrases and lines, should take an hour out of their day to listen to this album. It is one of the deepest, and most emotional albums I`ve ever heard. This is by far, one of the best albums of all time. And if you enjoyed this, you will absolutely enjoy his other albums. If you have the maturity to look past the brutality of this album, you will see that it is a work of art. If there was more than five stars, I would give it to this.

One Of The Best Cd's Ever!

This is an amazing cd! easily best of ems! if u dont have it, buy it!

The rapper rock fans can love.

I normally hate rap, and instantly wanted to hate eminem as soon as I heard of him, but he's just so amazingly funny, dark and twisted unlike any other rapper that it eventually caught on. Now I'm a big fan of his music, but still hate rap. See, what he's doing is parodying everything we see as normal in today's white urban society, in such a cunning way that the very people he's humiliating praise him. A brilliant album.

To call Eminem hip-hop's Elvis is correct to a degree, but it's largely inaccurate. Certainly, Eminem was the first white rapper since the Beastie Boys to garner both sales and critical respect, but his impact exceeded this confining distinction. On sheer verbal skills, Eminem was one of the greatest MCs of his generation -- rapid, fluid, dexterous, and unpredictable, as capable of pulling off long-form narrative as he was delivering a withering aside -- and thanks to his mentor Dr. Dre, he had music...
