Editors’ Notes

Who but Timbaland could conceive of the twisted Medtronic meet Miami Bass stomp of “Bounce” or the exhilarating take on Nina Simone’s “Sinnerman” that is “Oh Timbaland”? If Shock Value suffers from some poor decision making the album contains more than enough redeeming moments to make it a worthy entry into Timbaland’s catalogue.

Customer Reviews

Oh, Timbaland...

The almighty Timbaland is unstoppable! He is an absolute genius. He produces hit after hit and this album is quite a showing for him. I figured this album would be crap like every other rapper's album out there, but what was I thinking? It's Timbaland! Shock Value is so good! It's a great album to listen to while you're driving and it's great to dance to, as well. I like the single Give It to Me and The Way I Are, however, Release is, by far, my favorite. It kind of has that SexyBack vibe to it. Good job, Timbaland!

this album is awesome, it has such a wide variety of featuring artists on it that it keeps it interesting. The best song on the album is Apologize feat. One Republic...now that is a band to keep an eye out for! I recommend buying the album for yourself and for all your friends, great album to enjoy with the warm weather...cruising with the windows down....you won't be disappointed!!

Most Disappointing Album of the Year

This release from Timbaland really exhibits his limitations as a producer, even moreso as a lyricist. Two songs, 'Way I Are' and 'Give it to Me' stand out as great club bangers, but the rest of the songs sound too similar to what he has already released. The exceptions to this being the obvious, collaborations with fallout boy, elton john, and the hives simply don't work. No question, Timbaland is hot right now, and he'll tell you that countless times in his rhymes. It's unfortunate that his attempt to capitalize on his recent mainstream success with the likes of Furtado and Timberlake has materialized as a such a poor representation of the distinct and catchy beats that he's produced in the past. If I could give him a piece of advice, it would be to get back to his roots producing hard hitting beats for the club, not my little sister's workout tapes.

Biography

Born: March 10, 1971 in Norfolk, VA

Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Timbaland ascended to the top of the pop industry in the late '90s, impressively balancing his in-demand hitmaking abilities with his outlandish production style. Few rap producers were capable of such a balance between commerce and craft. Timbaland produced an endless list of hits, primarily for a select group of affiliates (Missy Elliott, Aaliyah, Jay-Z, Ginuwine) though also for a number of other A-list artists (Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Nas, Justin Timberlake). Even so, he always infused a remarkable...
