Original music, great sound, 5 stars without a doubt

I bought the album back when it first came out. I didnt no who Matthew Good was or whatkind of music he played. Ironicly he became my favorite artist and this is my favorite album of all time. When you first get it you'll listen to the obvious hits like weapon, In a world called catastrophe and pledge of allegiance. These amazingly are some of the average songs of the album. Double life, a long way down, avalanche and practically everyother songs are songs that ull want to listen to over and over again. Matthew Good has clearly seperated himself from all the big selling artists that all sound the same like Nickelback, Theory of a deadman. Im not saying they dont have good sound but id pick matthew over them anyday. Keep up the great work.

Adored. Otherworldly.

I really enjoyed all of the Matthew Good Band’s efforts from the beginning (and I still do.) Who knows why bands break up and I didn’t pay much attention back then. Since the band was done, Matt’s evolution to solo artist seemed a given and the first solo release was much anticipated. This brilliant album is what he presented us with. I still remember the impact of "Avalanche" upon first listen: it was completely and totally stunning. My awe remains and it’s never been out of rotation. Matt’s an intelligent guy, an amazing, multi-talented musician and profound songwriter – that’s just the music, the lyrics and his substance. So those always get you. Then of course there’s the thing that utterly, unequivocally gets me the most, each and every time, no matter the song: his voice. Matthew Good’s voice is an unbelievable gift and his strongest instrument. Can it even be described: the astounding, seemingly effortless range? The incomparable qualities, the beautiful catapult? The fluidity, the edge: whether at ease, soft, hard or menacing? To comment on the songs that are the highlights for me would quite seriously mean listing each one. Though I must say, ‘While We Were Hunting Rabbits’ is by far one of the greatest songs ever. I never fail to be struck by what a masterpiece it is in every regard. Those of you who are already fans know what I am talking about. If you’re just getting into MG now: your music listening life is about to be infinitely enriched.

Great from start to finish...

Pledge of Allegiance, Weapon & Near Fantastica are all worth buying the full-length album for, but with iTunes you don't have to. However, if you like the sampling of those songs, I would recommend buying the whole album since it is a strong effort from Matt Good from start to finish.
