EDITORS’ NOTES

On his long-awaited solo debut, Korn frontman Jonathan Davis channels his favourite goth and New Romantic groups of the '80s with a heavy modern edge. The glistening guitar tone and soft synths of opener “Underneath My Skin” are complemented by rumbling bass and a massive beat, while the snaky melodies and breathy vocal line of “Basic Needs” recall some of Depeche Mode’s finest moments. He rounds things out with “What It Is,” which boasts an infectious chorus powered by lush electronics and Davis’ tasteful falsetto.
