iTunes Review

A dozen essentials from the Stones' first phase, with both rockers ("Satisfaction," "19th Nervous Breakdown") and R&B-derived ballads ("Tell Me," "Heart of Stone") represented. Only three songs are not originals, so it's not an accurate snapshot of the early years, but it fully captures the bravado and sexual charge that from the start marked the band. It's definitely a great place to start for a Stones education, though it's long been superceded by other more thorough and cost-effective collections.

High Tide And Green Grass

Prior to "Aftermath" in 1966, Rolling Stone records were hodge podge R&B rave ups. Mostly comprised of covers from the bands record collection. Each album would contain only a few original Jagger/Richards tunes and non-album singles would be the cream of their originals. "Big Hits..." released in 1966 was the first compilation of all their best tracks and as such, the Stones most consistent album of that time. Since then there have been multiple compilations, but this does have the distinction of being the first and bookends their blues era before psychadelia entered.

Big Hits (High Tides and Green Grass0

I bought this album when it was first relaesed. I was 16 and an ardent Beatles fan. The album moved me in a new direction then and continues to be one of my all time favorite collections of any band. Though the lead song Satisfaction, is probably one of the Rolling stones biggest hits of their early years the album has a true R&B flavour. Simple blues dominates the album. It's All Over Now may truely be one of their gretest blues messages. Pure, guitar, great blues lyrics and Jaggers matchless voice gives the song power and streangth. This is one of the best colections of the Stones in their early days and their purest blues roots.

Nice Compilation

This is a nice compilation of well known tracks and not so well known tracks. Why try and over analyze it?

By the time the Rolling Stones began calling themselves the World's Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the late '60s, they had already staked out an impressive claim on the title. As the self-consciously dangerous alternative to the bouncy Merseybeat of the Beatles in the British Invasion, the Stones had pioneered the gritty, hard-driving blues-based rock & roll that came to define hard rock. With his preening machismo and latent maliciousness, Mick Jagger became the prototypical rock frontman, tempering...
