New Surrender

I loved the album.. like other people said - if you loved Cities, you'll love New Surrender. I love the sound.

New Sound, New Label, New Producer, Great Album!

The album brings a lot of new aspects to the sound of the Orlando FL band, and I truly believe this was not by mistake. After working with the bands good friend Aaron Sprinkle on their previous albums, the group decided to make the bold and risky decision to switch producers and work with Neal Avron (Yellowcard, Fall Out Boy, New Found Glory). If this change wasn’t enough, the band made the decision to leave their label Tooth & Nail, whom they had sold 435,000 albums with. The great thing about this album as you listen is the great diversity the band shows throughout. You start with a very high energy track with strong guitars and drums, and within a few tracks you have the softer sounds of the track Retrace, showcasing the great vocal performance by Stephen Christian. Further accentuating the band’s diversity is on the track Younglife, where the band performs an acoustic ballad. This whole album is a pleasure to listen to and it is very refreshing to listen to how Anberlin has further developed their sound for this project, and in my opinion this is the bands most diverse, vocally strong album to date.

Good but not as good as Cities

A great album, but it doesn't match up to what Cities and Never Take Friendship Personal delivered. They have gone down the route of a mainstream rock band, i just wished that they didn't take away all the intensity and what felt so real about the previous two albums. Hopefully they'll raise the bar once again with a future album.

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Hailing from Orlando, Florida, Anberlin formed from the ashes of various other area projects. Led by the soaring vocals of Stephen Christian, the positive-thinking Anberlin also included Joseph Milligan (guitar), Nathan Young (drums), Joey Bruce (guitar), and Deon Rexroat (bass), and presented an alternative pop/rock sound that, while inflected with the earnestness of emo, was closer to the mature stylings of Third Eye Blind. A five-song demo garnered Anberlin the attention of Seattle-based indie...
