Bruised Orange

Ah yes, John Prine; If you are a serious rocket scientist this album may not be for you. BUT if you like to feel like your really alive and not so weird after all, this collection of musical stories may move you to laughter and tears all in the same line. I was late coming into the music of many of America's best singer/songwriters, but John Prine is in a category all his own. I'd never heard his name until I was listening to "Some Things Never Grow Old" by Vince Gill and he mentions John's name twice so I went looking for who it was that could impress Vince that much.. The first song I heard was John Prine and Iris Dement singing "In Spite of Ourselves, and I was hooked. John Prine is a person who can wind everyday life, mixed with flights of fancy, and broken hearts, into true musical works of art. John's not the greatest singer in the world of music, but I believe he is one of the best musical storytellers to grace this planet. It's not just the words either, John produces music that moves seamlessy with the words, and leaves us remembering so many things that have been a part of most folks lives. Thank you John.. There are a number of other singer/songwriters who I've found to hold someof the same talent, people like Townes Van Zandt, Cathi Griffith, Iris Dement, Guy Clark, Ray Lamontaine, and many more. Music can change your whole outlook on life, and John Prine and many of these others have deeply influenced the way I look at life these days.

Raised by parents firmly rooted in their rural Kentucky background, at age 14 Prine began learning to play the guitar from his older brother while taking inspiration from his grandfather, who had played with Merle Travis.
