Best album of 2007

2007 was the home of a lot of great albums but probably the one that resonated with me the most is Mike Ford's Canada Needs You, Volume 2.
Already a fan of his earlier work (both solo and as part of Moxy Früvous), I was stunned by the diversity on V2.
from the opener, Creeping Barrage, we are greeted to a catchy albeit melancholy side of his songwriting. The strings elevate it to among his best work of the twentieth century.
Following Creeping Barrage we can see Ford's diversity, since nearly every song following it sounds quite different. The anthemic In Winnipeg is followed by the Portishead-ish Tea Party, followed by the (near) title track and arguably the album's showstopper: Canada Doesn't Need You. A gorgeous, subtle track which only reaffirms my befuddlement as to why Mike Ford isn't considered one of Canada's treasures.
The album's second half is just as strong, with tracks like The Giants, Expo '67 and I'm Gonna Roam Again also among Ford's best.
Perhaps my favourite is the quiet, subdued Maurice Richard. Simple and beautiful.

At 10$, this album is a steal. Support this national treasure by purchasing what I consider to be his best album yet.

Very good song that revives Canadian history through music.
