iTunes Review

Released the day before Tom Petty’s 29th birthday, Damn the Torpedoes unites the chiming pop of the ‘60s (“Here Comes My Girl”), the muscled riffs of the ’70s (“Refugee”), and the stripped-down heartland rock of the ’80s (“Don’t Do Me Like That”). “Even the Losers” isn’t rock music for the gods—it’s for the guy in the back of the bar, leaning against the cigarette machine.
