iTunes Review

Christmas With Weezer delivers on its title — six covers of well known (and mostly religious) yuletide carols cranked up and rocked out with the unmistakable sound that the band's fans know and love like family. Initially recorded for the previously released iPhone OS game Christmas With Weezer, it makes perfect sense for a power-pop band to blast through tunes that are under three minutes long. “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” opens with fuzzy guitar distortion and Rivers Cuomo singing like he means it, especially when he shouts the "We won’t leave until we get some" part before a short and tasteful solo softly erupts. The doubled vocals on “O Come All Ye Faithful” fit well, while the singular sung track on the more subdued verses of “O Holy Night” is conversely appropriate. “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” plays appropriately triumphant and their take on the mellower “Silent Night” stays true to form, though the buzzing guitars almost sound like the ghost of of shoegaze past since the tempo is mellower than most Weezer recordings. Similarly, “The First Noel” moves with a peaceful pulse as Cuomo croons over warm blankets of crumbling guitar crunch.

Ça fait du bien...

Merci Weezer, ça ma permis de me mettre dans le mood du temps des fêtes, c'est vraiment bien fait (à la Weezer), la voix Rivers Cuomo est toujours aussi excellente!

At last!!!

An EP that will go down in the ages as one of the best Christmas CD's of 2008 by Weezer

Short and sweet- memories of the old Pinkerton days. Nice and simple, no "improvements" to the classic Christmas songs. If you like Weezer this is a nice, cheap, Christmas EP. There are some negative reviews which point at the simplicity of the almum as a drawback. Personally, I don't like it when artists take classic songs and "improve" them with new parts or lyrics, but that's just me. If you don't like Weezer to begin with, you may not like the album though because it certainly sounds like them playing Christmas songs. If you're looking for a classic "John Denver" type Christmas album...then buy John Denver.

Formed: 1993 in Los Angeles, CA

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

As one of the most popular groups to emerge in the post-grunge alternative rock aftermath, Weezer received equal amounts of criticism and praise for their hook-heavy guitar pop. Drawing from the heavy power pop of arena rockers like Cheap Trick and the angular guitar leads of the Pixies, Weezer leavened their melodies with doses of '70s metal gleaned from bands like Kiss. What truly set the band apart, though, was their geekiness. None of the members of Weezer, especially leader Rivers Cuomo, were...
