Album Review

They don't make pop-punk like this anymore. No emo overtones, no generic NOFX or Queers riffs to be found and no songs about crying over a girl who broke said person's heart. Just straightforward, happy pop-punk with some of the catchiest songs to come out of Canada. With their second album, Born on the First of July, Chixdiggit continue their attitude of rocking out without a care in the world. And only these guys could make a roomful of kids sing along to "O-H-I-O" on their soon-to-be classic song of the same name. Even if no new ground is covered in comparison to their first album, Born on the First of July is still a blast.

Originally using the future band moniker merely as an excuse to sell T-shirts with "Chixdiggit!" in cheesy metal logos, these guys figured that they should at least start a group with that name. So in 1991, without any musical experience or ability to read music, Mark O'Flaherty (guitar), K.J. Jansen (vocals/guitar), and Michael Eggermont (bass) got together with the intention of rocking out Calgary along with the rest of Canada.
