Editors’ Notes

Matchbox Twenty singer Rob Thomas produces pop music that has one ear cocked towards classic AOR through the decades, with the other ear turned towards keeping the productions electrified to ensure the songs never sit still. His vocals are assured if never quite a revelation. “Real World ‘09” shuffles with a manic intensity as Thomas attempts to put the world into modern perspective, sounding more than a little like Eddie Vedder shuddering at the thought of another love affair ending if not the rest of the world falling apart. “Her Diamonds” (the album’s first single), “Give Me the Meltdown,” and “Someday” crackle with the pop urgency and anthemic choruses demanded by pop radio. “Fire On the Mountain” slides slightly towards world beat. In interviews, Thomas has said Cradlesong was inspired in part by Paul Simon’s South American inspired Rhythm of the Saints. “Hard On You” employs a sleek, easeful groove reminiscent of Silk Degreesera Boz Scaggs with a cleaner surface. The title track pulses with a sense of sadness and foreboding. Thomas is a sensitive singer-songwriter cast in modern rock production.

Customer Reviews

Fantastic

There has always been something about Rob Thomas's songwriting that just grabs you right from start to finish, and I don't think there has ever been a better example than Cradlesong. In my opinion, this is his best work to date. It is a definite "buy it" in my books. Not a single song dissappoints!!

Do your really need this review...

to tell you this is another fabulous creative delight by Rob Thomas? He's consistently excellent, so treat your ears and soul to this. Thanks Rob!

Fantastic!! U won't be disappointed.

This album blew me away! It’s a Rob Thomas sound for sure…..as always his distinctive sound and smooth vocals are undeniably fantastic but this time around there’s such a wide variety of sounds. The instrumental aspects of the songs are great….many eclectic sounds that bring a worldly vibe to this album. Something on it for everyone. Real World ’09 is a great rockin’, get-you-going kind of song. Fire on the Mountain is so powerful with really strong vocals. There’s many great ballads and rock songs but also a couple of songs with a little country feel or a subtle 80’s rock sound as well. If you’re a Rob Thomas fan or just a fan of great music you’ll love this album. Oh and the bonus track is well owrth the extra buck or two plus you get the HD video so splurge and get the extras!!
