I like it

So here's another AFI album. The thing I like most about AFI is their wicked guitar settings. The lead guitar is snarly and the bass is booming. Davey's voice is okay. He says "oh" at least 27 times a song, but that's all right. I don't know how the drumming is (I'm not a drummer), but the percussion intro on "Too Shy to Scream" is wonderful catchy.

Still love Jade's dynamic verses. Another thing that differentiates AFI from conventional rock is their verse-chorus relationships. Where generic rock has a tendency to have breaks in sound between the verse and chorus (and especially from chorus to bridge), AFI's tracks flow through each part. It's wonderful to hear songs that actually sound like songs, not like 3 parts of a song smooshed together to make a track.

Also! The tracks are all nicely differentiated. This is AFI, not 3 Doors Creedelback, you know. Each song sounds different. And it's nice.

Overall, this is a nice sounding album. Is there a "Miss Murder" or "Love Like Winter" here? I'm not sure. The songs have hooks a plenty, but I'm not sure if any will have the universal appeal of Miss Murder.

Compared to past albums, this one is more... I want to say pop, but it's not pop. It's smoother and catchier. Davey is still as melodramatic as ever, but his weird lyrics are kind of lost amid the sound. While DECEMBERUNDERGROUND and Sing the Sorrow were filled with moody ballads, this one sounds more... positive? As positive as AFI can sound I guess. :P

They're back. They're different. And they're still fantastic.

This is an excellent album.

SO HAPPY !!!!

AFI has always been a favourite band for me, & I think Crash <3 is amazing !!!! I love all the songs & lyrics. Well Done AFI !!!! (and this review is coming from a pre-teen.)

Ummmm

This album has it's ups and downs. Part brilliant, part... I can't believe this is AFI. I think AFIT hit their peak with Sing The Sorrow and have now gone in the entirely wrong direction. I find myself listening to this album and thinking... what the heck am I listening to. I'm quite dissapointed.

Biography

Formed: 1991 in Ukiah, CA

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Although they didn't reach platinum status until 2003, hardcore punk revivalists AFI originally formed in 1991, when the band's four founding members — vocalist Davey Havok, guitarist Markus Stopholese, bassist Vic Chalker, and drummer Adam Carson — were attending high school in Ukiah, California. Chalker was replaced by Geoff Kresge after eight months, and the band played several local gigs and released a split 7", Dork, with fellow Ukiah natives Loose Change (a band that incidentally...
