iTunes Review

Belgian chanteuse Selah Sue is one of a few musicians blending genres to create her own. Though she’s been playing guitar and writing songs since age 15, it took a cameo on Cee Lo Green's The Lady Killer and a support slot on Prince’s European tour to give Sue deserved momentum. Her eponymous 2012 debut album opens with a slow-burning jam punctuated by an old-school dub-style bass line playing over imported analog pops, crackles, and hiss (sampled and looped from an old vinyl record). Over this, Sue sings powerful R&B as a Memphis-flavored horn section blasts through the chorus. There are times when Sue’s slightly raspy voice recalls a young Macy Gray, but Sue can drive her voice into much wider ranges. “Raggamuffin” starts off with folkie acoustic guitars before blending reggae and rock with jazzy Rhodes piano. When Sue fuses her soulful inflections with rhythmic toasting, the song comes to life. Green appears on “Please,” a simmering slice of classic soul that Amy Winehouse fans will dig. The semi-autobiographical “Crazy Vibes” is another standout.

A diamond in the rough , beware of wrong comparaisons !

This first complete album from belgian born Selah Sue (real name Sanne Putseys) is to be carefully listened to and to be really appreciated. If you don't have and take (same thing) the time to live the music you're listening to, you'll be missing a great music exprerience.
After the very good first impression, you"ll discover an authentic songwriting talent. As for her particular but not unique voice , beyond the easy reference we can quikckly hear is something more groovy and touching in the tone and the way she bites into most of the song's lyrics. At the end of 2011 , a few names will instantly be in the year's top10 besides Adele, The Black Keys, MMJ and Black Dub and Selah Sue is one of them for sure...

Real artist

Love this girls music! Her sound is unique and truly amazing...I saw her live in toronto this week and she is one of those artist that sounds better than her CD when heard live! How often do u hear a CD and think wicked, then you hear the artist live and they just can't sing! This is not the case with Selah, she has true talent! I would match her talent to that of Amy Whitehouse! Buy this album and listen to it you will love it! Enough with commercial, American idol rubbish and bring back true artists like Selah!!!

Amazing voice

An orgasm in my head
