Nothing Compares

Some artists produce albums year after year with only the slightest change in style making it easy to produce a greatest hits album in which all the songs flow easily from one to another. Prince is not that artist. In order to really appreciate the breadth of this man's genius, you would need to listen to all of the albums that precede this compilation. From the techno soundscapes of "1999" to the bombastic rock of "Purple Rain", to the pop-funk masterpiece of "Sign O The Times", Prince's musical exploration and sheer prodigious output has been awe-inspiring. This leads us to the problem of packaging a "best of" CD for an artist who's style has been to push his style to the breaking point with every release. Warners decided to abandon any coherance and just let the songs speak for themselves. Released in 1993, this collection captures the best of Prince before his goofy name change and record company war and before his output became uninspired. A bit of advice: these songs are in their edited single versions, best to download the album versions.

RIP Prince

Rest in peace, Prince. You will always go down as one of the greatest of all time.

Few artists have created a body of work as rich and varied as Prince. Not only did he release a series of groundbreaking albums; he toured frequently, produced albums, and wrote songs for many other artists, and recorded hundreds of songs that still lie unreleased in his vaults. With each album he released, Prince showed remarkable stylistic growth...
