EDITORS’ NOTES

Chris Lorenzo has close ties to the Birmingham sound, a speedy blend of industrial, garage, and house with roots in drum 'n' bass. But here, on his debut album, he dips his toes into hip-hop. The hiccuping synths and bouncy basslines on “Afterparty,” an impossibly catchy collaboration with Australian export Sonny Fodera, would be right at home in a sweaty Chicago nightclub. “Purple Toe,” a joint effort with DJ Zinc, puts a groovy spin on trap horns. UK house purists aren’t at a loss, though; Lorenzo gives London star Katy B’s “I Wanna Be” a smooth, proper club edit.
