Worth Celebrating?

The same problems that marred the Immaculate Collection and GHV2 are present here -- choppy edits ("Open Your Heart," "Don't Tell Me"), weird sequencing ("Vogue," "Frozen"), missing songs ("Deeper and Deeper," "I'll Remember"), and some downright strange track choices ("Hollywood," "Miles Away"). Does all this really matter? Nah. Ultimately, you're getting a huge number of pop's greatest songs, some of which were desperately in need of remasters ("Into the Groove," "Like a Prayer," "Vogue") a couple of decent, danceable new tracks, and a well-rounded selection of the most iconic videos ever, all at a huge discount for what they would cost individually. Great remixes of "Lucky Star" and "Express Yourself" make up for the few tracks that boast the inferior Shep Pettibone mixes from the Immaculate Collection, and even if they're not as good as the originals, the radio edits of songs like "Sorry" and "4 Minutes" get the job done. For people who've only invested in the previous hits albums, "Dress You Up," "Burning Up," and "Who's That Girl" will be welcome additions. While both the song and video collections are missing some career highlights, all of the essentials are in place. This collection isn't perfect, but songs like "Vogue," "Express Yourself," "Like a Prayer," and their accompanying videos certainly are, and to have them bundled in one tight $30 package is reason enough to celebrate.

Sweet album

Best compilation of all her songs. Word of advice, buy the CD in store and it's only $18.99 (in Canada anyways). iTunes is ripping you off big time.

Immaculate once again

well if ever there was a greatest hits to own this is it ! this cd of celebrations is a total bio of madonna,s work and proves why she is the Queen of Pop. this cd proves why madonna is a power house in the music indestry she has stayed in power since the 80,s and still going strong where other artist of this time have lost there staying power and many could not do such a large compelation of hits . oh and to people out there this is not all her hits there are still some missing but that would have taked a 3 cd . After stars reach a certain point, it's easy to forget what they became famous for and concentrate solely on their personas. Madonna is such a star. She rocketed to stardom so quickly in 1984 that it obscured most of her musical virtues. Appreciating her music became even more difficult as the decade wore on, as discussing her lifestyle became more common. However, one of Madonna's greatest achievements is how she has manipulated the media and the public with...
