Album Review

After the accidental death of vocalist Mitch Lucker, it would have seemed that Riverside, California's thrashing death metal veterans Suicide Silence would have no choice but to call it a day. Not a chance. After recruiting Hernan "Eddie" Hermida from All Shall Perish in time for a Lucker memorial show, the band understood that he was a natural fit. Evidence lies in the set's highlights."You Can't Stop Me" reveals that Hermida understood not only Suicide Silence's root sound, but also where they were trying to go. Alternating between shrieks and guttural low growls, he leads the band in highlights that include the careening "Inherit the Crown," the speed test of "Cease to Exist," the irresistible staccato hook in "Warrior," the blinding blitzkrieg that is "Ending Is the Beginning," the anthemic "Sacred Words," and the punishing "Control." [You Can't Stop Me was also released as a CD/DVD set.]

From the 3 songs I heard I'm excited. I was a huge fan of Mitch and wasn't sure how Eddie was going to do. If he'd be able to pull it off. He's doing it now, could never be happier. RIP mitch! \m/

probably one of the best albums this year besides

Suicide Silence : You Can't Stop Me

I've heard some pretty tight albums come out this year but I have to say this one is appealing to me the most. From the superb performance in the instrumentals, to the out of this world vocals that Eddie brought to the table, and the beautiful mixing and mastering that went into it, I've had it on repeat constantly since it came out, the preorder was so worth it and I can literally listen to any track on this album repeatedly and have it continue to grow on me. The depth and concept of this album was definitely something outside of the box such as songs, "Inherit the Crown" and "Warrior" that introduced a new lyrical and mood to Suicide Silence's musical résumé. The fantastic guest appearances on "Control" and "Monster Within" really caught me off guard and made each song just that more memorable. It was so interesting to hear a new side of Suicide Silence as bad. All of my respects to Mitch Lucker and his family, he will always have a place I'm our heart as Suicide Silence fans. He would've been proud of how Eddie has treated the band since his recent addition to the band. Every member of the band and who made the album happen did a fantastic job and this was DEFINITELY worth the buy. Go for it!

Formed: 2002 in Riverside, CA

Genre: Metal

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Riverside, California's Suicide Silence formed in 2002. A quintet, the band specialized in that 21st century metal phenomenon known as deathcore, and was signed to international mega metal label Century Media. The band managed to get things rolling quickly, save for a few lineup changes, and went from formation to deal in a mere two years. In the meantime, Suicide Silence issued one pre-deal EP -- the simply titled Suicide Silence -- which saw the light of day on indie labels At the Deep End and...
