A standard against which many others are measured

This record is essential listening for anyone eager to make sense of any edgey pop music released since 1980. The slash and burn guitar playing set the stage for hundreds of immitators, and yet the original still shines above virtually every one of them. And while many have tried to follow in their footsteps musically, precious few have taken up the lyrical challenge, reflecting our own lives and society back at us in stark, uncompromising ways. This is dance music for the thinking person with an axe to grind. Still relevant after all these years.

Music that gets better each time you listen to it

I can only imagine, but Entertainment! must be the closest musical equivalent to getting an adrenalin shot: music that reminds you that you still have a heart pumping in your chest. The political, cultural and social commentary is definitely prevalent, but it's not ham-fisted or pretentious. Gang of Four doesn't bludgeon you, but rather let's their ideology seep into your open pores while 'sweats running down your back'.

Blood pumper

I recall two night no-sleep project deadlines in arch school, cica '83, put this album on to drive the final frenzied finish! Still charges the batteries today!

Fueled by the fury of punk rock and radical political theory, Gang of Four successfully welded the two in an inspired display of polemics and music that addressed the vagaries of life in the modern world (including...
