Les Mis highlights

Just downloaded the highlights album from the new Les Mis movie. I'm disappointed that "Do you hear the people sing?" isn't on the album. Will it be in the movie?

I Dreamed a Dream by Anne Hathaway

I love Anne Hathaway's version of "I Dreamed a Dream". Anne sings with so much raw emotion on this song. This is one of the main reasons I am seeing the film for Anne Hathaway's performance of this song alone. It is a very heartfelt and moving performance.

Fabulous

The glaring absence of songs like "Do You Hear The People Sing", "Who Am I", and "Lovely Ladies" aside, the album offers a balanced, though admittedly incomplete, musical interpretation of Les Miserables.
Anne Hathaway's performance in "I Dreamed a Dream" is positively heartbreaking. It is easily the highlight of the album.
I have to say, I am a tad surprised by Samantha Barks' vocally small interpretation of "On My Own", which lacks vocal power, (not ability, Barks is really quite talented), in favor of using quiet emotion instead; although this appears to be a recurring theme in this adaptation.
I also have a light qualm with the cuts of certain songs. For example, "At the End of the Day" cuts Fantine's four line explanation of her situation. This was disappointing to me.
On a whole though, I was thoroughly impressed, and still await the film with great anticipation. Perhaps a second album should be released after the film, including alternate cuts of certain songs, and the others people were hoping for.
Highly recommended.
