iTunes Review

Plaintive pianos aside, Keane’s sound has as much in common with the mournful British synth-pop duos of the ’80s as it does fellow piano-led indie rockers like Coldplay. Their best songs—“This Is the Last Time,” “Bend & Break”—start quietly with a soft, introspective verse, in which Tim Rice-Oxley’s stately piano acts as a melancholy foil to Tom Chaplin’s worried tenor. When it all blossoms into an ecstatic, sky-bound chorus, it’s as if the sun has come out, rewarding doubt with blessed relief.

Best Brit Album

This may be my all time favourite album. Great soulful sounds. Great lyrics. Just an awesome band. All the songs are great but make sure to check out "Everybody's Changing."

The Great Debut Album!

Keane has definitely created a new sound in music by Releasing Hopes&Fears, It's personally one of my favorite album! Packed with unforgetable tracks like: Somewhere Only We Know, Bedshaped, We Might As Well Be Strangers, Everybody's Changing and She Has No Time. There is no question here those singles, written by Mr. Rice-Oxley, will more than any other song touch your heart! I definitly promise that you will fall in love will this ''Chef D'oeuvre'' , like we would call it in French! There are nodoubt in my mind that this new Piano Rock sound will conquer everybody's heart!

Outstanding

I remember getting this after hearing ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ just once. (I’ve done that only once before, and that was for Radiohead, back at their start.) This was before the hype and I also remember the endless advertising for this album - it actually did take awhile to catch on. I’m all about being in love with the great voices (I’d run away though if you forced me to rank them.) Tom Chaplin’s voice is unparalleled. An incredible delight and I always marvel at the range and the length at which he can carry an entire verse without a breath (seriously, listen closely. 'She Has No Time' is a marvelous example) or barely a breath. And what can you say about Tim Rice-Oxley other than he’s a genius; Richard Hughes is wicked. I’ve been to several live performances and each has been unreal. The iTunes review here: on & on about the Coldplay (whom I adore) comparisons. Coldplay and Keane were coming up at the same time and knew each other. Early days, T. R-O was actually invited by Chris Martin to join the band as their piano player. T. R-O declined, causing Martin to take on multiple duties (and look at how wonderfully THAT turned out!) You can see how T. R-O would have been a perfect fit, but thank goodness he declined. Keane are different and glorious and have already given us a bounty of great music. There is no such thing as a bad or mediocre Keane song. Get everything by Keane that you can, including the 2-disc “Strangers” DVD. It has live footage and numerous interviews that are mesmerizing, insightful and quite humorous.

Keane's piano-driven pop/rock is created by vocalist Tom Chaplin, drummer Richard Hughes, and pianist Tim Rice-Oxley, three childhood friends from the small town of Battle in East Sussex, England. Formed in 1997, the group started out as a college-aged cover band. Guitarist Dominic Scott was also part of this early incarnation, having previously played cover songs with Hughes and Rice-Oxley in a band named the Lotus Eaters.
