Album Review

April Wine is a perfect example of a band that critics loved to loathe in the 1970s and 1980s — you could fill an encyclopedia with all the negative reviews that First Glance received in 1978. Critics detested commercial hard rock/arena rock items like "Hot on the Wheels of Love," "Roller" and "Get Ready for Love" with a passion, but fans of the Canadian band paid no attention and bought the album anyway. First Glance wasn't meant to be challenging or cutting-edge; April Wine's mission was to pull the listener in with infectious grooves and hooks and enable him/her to escape — and this album definitely accomplishes those things. One of April Wine's finest releases, First Glance is easily recommended to hard rock enthusiasts.

A '70's Classic!

I had the cassette in 1978...wore it out! This was one of my favourite April Wine albums. "Hot On The Wheels Of Love" starts it off and it keeps going with one strong track after another. "Roller" and "Rock And Roll Is A Vicious Game" are classics. It finishes with "Silver Dollar", probably the best on the album and one of my favourite April Wine songs. If you like this band but don't have this one, you will not be disappointed.

What can be said?

It's an awesome album. Plain and simple. You got really great rock ballads with "Comin' Right Down on Top of Me" and "Rock and Roll is a Vicious Game" aswell as the obvious April Wine classic "Roller". I also really enjoyed "Right Down to it".

iTunes error!

Cmon Apple!You've got songs 1 & 2 mixed up.
Song #1 is titled Hot On The Wheels Of Love but the sample clip is Song #2 and vice versa!

Fine album, btw!

April Wine formed in late 1969 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, but vocalist/guitarist Myles Goodwyn, guitarist David Henman, drummer Ritchie Henman, and bassist Jimmy Henman soon moved to Montreal.
