iTunes Review

Ron Sexsmith has been one of most consistently brilliant songwriters since he emerged fully formed with his self-titled major-label release in 1995. Here with hard-rock producer Bob Rock keeping the sound tight and snappy, he sounds more powerful than ever before. The hooks come flying fast and furious and Sexsmith sounds completely in charge on the harmony-stacked power-pop rocker “The Reason Why.” Throughout the album, the arrangements coalesce into a powerful mix that gives Sexsmith a strong-armed backing band, with Josh Freese on drums and Travis Good of the Sadies on guitar. “Believe It When I See It” features a chilling organ-piano bed and a melody worthy of early-‘70s radio. “Miracles” is soft rock with an extra kick. “No Help At All” with electric piano and flute travels to a time when songcraft was highly celebrated. “Late Bloomer” rings like an Andrew Gold piano piece. “Heavenly,” in a crisp two and a half minutes, “Michael and His Dad” and “Everytime I Follow” are further proof of Sexsmith’s unrelenting songwriting prowess.

Ron in full bloom

Ron is not a late bloomer if you know his earlier music. Perhaps we can call him a late pop star bloomer because that is how he shines on this album. Ron and Bob Rock together is pure musical genius. This album will win Ron a Juno for songwriter of the year and Bob for producer of the heard it here first. Brilliant!

Ever The Same

The Man can do no wrong with me. He's such an honest artist who crafts beautiful songs in a very quiet and subtle way. If Ron was an actor, he'd be Colin Firth - no overacting, just doing a great job, consistently. And, that he's Canadian, just makes him that much better. Looking forward to seeing him in London, on March 5th. Thanks for another beauty, Ron.

Great.....but what else is knew

Not necessarily new ground broken here, but the guy is such a strong writer it's almost unreal.

It must drive other singer songwriters crazy. Ron seems to have an endless pool of great tunes.

Worth the purchase.

The earnest work of boyish Canadian singer/songwriter Ron Sexsmith won acclaim not only from critics but from fellow performers like Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, and John Hiatt -- some of the same artists, ironically enough, who initially inspired Sexsmith himself to become a musician. Born in 1964 and raised in the Niagara Falls area, he started his first band at the age of 14, and within a few years earned his first regular gig at an area club. Influenced by Pete Seeger, he began making the...
