Tortured Canadian Poet - And that's tortured

Any Canadian that doesn't buy this, or own all the songs in some other form, needs to march through the snow to the nearest government office and turn in his or her passport and will also be banned from all hockey venues for life. Sure the guy drinks, and some of the lyrics in his songs drift off into a pretty weird space (I mean have you ever listened to the last few stanzas of "If You Could Read My Mind?" what the heck is he talking about? weird) but you have to love the Lightfoot. The guy knows how to put a song together in a folksy yet uniquely Canadian way. He is a true artist. I once got into a fight years ago with a guy who went to the Buffalo Sabres training camp (big guy), he pounded me good and do you know what the argument was about? Who's dad was the biggest Gordon Lightfoot fan. Only in Canada. My nose still makes a clicking sound if I push it in a certain way from that fight and I am happy to have taken the beats for you, Gord. Would do it again. Anytime. I'm Canadian.

Dear Tortured,

I cannot tell you how profoundly I agree ... You, in fact, are Canadian to the highest degree ... God bless.

Gordon Lightfoot - Simply the best

I have your music, I've performed your music in concert myself. This album shows your wonderful song writing and poetry, Why do we still want to listen to the tunes on this album after this many years, because you are a music icon, no, you are unique and simply the best of your time which as it turns out is timeless.

One of the leading singer/songwriters of the 1960s and '70s, Gordon Lightfoot was Canada's most successful contemporary folk artist, establishing himself as an important songwriter in the mid-'60s and going on to become a major international recording star in the following decade. Lightfoot's songs are literate but down to earth, and deal with personal matters as well as global issues in a manner that's poetic yet accessible, and his rich, strong voice is a superb vehicle for his material, though...
