Is it an illusion or is the second time even better?

No disrespect intended to Dennis DeYoung, but Gowan is so much more appropriate for the Styx sound. Not to mention the energy he brings to the stage. Tommy Shaw sounds younger and more invigorated than he did in the 70's when these two albums came out originally. I love both Tommy's and JY's guitar work. What else can really be said about James Young? This guy is the epitome of a rock god. I've never understood why James Young didn't get more press when Styx were in their prime (although…and argument can be made that Styx are in their prime now).

They've reinvented these classic albums to make them sound as if they were just released today. If you're a fan of Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight then you have to get this album. I couldn't stop tapping my feet while listening to this show. The video of this show is outstanding as well. Chuck looks healthier than he has in years….way to go Chuck! This concert is not a note for note replay of the original material. This show is rock and roll at it's best from an a band that knows how to play and have a great time while doing it. Wow, enough of writing this review….I must get back to listening to the show. Here's to hoping we have many, many more years with this incarnation of Styx! I might add it was Styx that turned me onto rock and roll back in the 70s……and it's Styx that just reminded me how fun rock and roll can be.

Although they began as an artsy prog rock band, Styx would eventually transform into the virtual arena rock prototype by the late '70s and early '80s, due to a fondness for bombastic rockers and soaring power ballads. The seeds for the band were planted in another Chicago band during the late '60s, the Tradewinds, which featured brothers Chuck and John Panozzo (who played bass and drums, respectively), as well as acquaintance Dennis DeYoung (vocals, keyboards). By the dawn of the '70s, the group...
