During the first moments of “Soft Offering (for the Oft Suffering)” Tim Baker sings yearningly about a sunrise over a wash of synthesizers. Moments later, when the song blooms with vivid colours—charging percussion, keyboards, strings, and echoing guitars—the opening statement of Second Sight glows with optimistic renewal. That spirit is what we love about the Newfoundland septet’s fourth full-length album. Recorded in Montreal with producer Marcus Paquin (Local Natives, Arcade Fire, The National), driving songs like “Promise,” “Kintsukuroi,” and “Dream” are filled with infectious energy and eloquent lyrics. By the time it closes with the serene "Trish's Song,” Second Sight is stunning.
