John P. Kee has long had a vision for what contemporary gospel should sound like. He merged gospel with an urban R&B sound back in the 1980s when it was actually an innovative move, and if his work sounds secular, it isn’t — it’s pure gospel. The Legacy Project finds him collaborating with likeminded artists such as Rance Allen, Fred Hammond, and Anthony Hamilton on a dozen gospel quartet pieces that somehow manage to sound as traditional as they do modern.

Kee (born: John Prince Kee) from a seedy lifestyle to a career as a top-ranked gospel performer, producer, and pastor of the New Life Fellowship Church in Charlotte, NC. In a 1996 interview he explained, "God delivered me in Charlotte's inner city from a life that mirrors the ills that we still face today."
