iTunes Review

Concert for George presents an all-star cast paying tribute to George Harrison a year after his death, on November 29, 2002, at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Eric Clapton served as musical director and contributes many fine performances of Harrison’s most beloved compositions (“If I Needed Someone,” “Beware of Darkness”). Paul McCartney teams with Clapton for a dramatic interpretation of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” He begins “Something” on ukulele, an instrument that McCartney claims was of great amusement to Harrison, and remains in top form, putting great emotion behind “All Things Must Pass.” Ringo Starr belts out “Photograph,” his Harrison-penned hit, and “Honey Don’t,” a Carl Perkins number once performed with The Beatles. This edition includes “Horse to the Water,” an impressive unreleased original penned by George and his son Dhani, and performed by Sam Brown and Jools Holland. Harrison’s interest in Indian music is emphasized with performances by his mentor Ravi Shankar’s daughter Anoushka, who collaborates with Jeff Lynne for a faithful reading of “The Inner Light.” It’s clearly a night put together with great love and affection for a much missed musician.

My Sweet George...

Wow I absolutely love this album. If you've ever seen the DVD of the concert, the second last song I'll See You In My Dreams will make anyone cry when watching it, it is so thoughtful and precious. Wonderful group of people and even better music.

George the beautiful Beatle

I enjoy the DVD of this concert so much and have been looking for the music for some time... I can't believe the iTunes price. This was Eric's gift to his long time friend's memory with so many of Georges friends present. Notably missing was Bob Dylan (Willbury) and of course John who took the 'path to enlightenment' before him. The music is tight and on the dvd to see all those axemen and drummers is chilling. Missing from the cd soundtrack are his pals from Python (including Tom Hanks as a Mountie). Buy the music for your iPod and the dvd for pleasure, if you are a Beatles / George fan will not regret it. The sitar from Anoushka on this cd is a great soundtrack in itself for a sunny Sunday afternoon!

Lyrics and melodies that capture the spirit of a generation. George Harrison's legacy could not be better captured than it has been on this album. The obvious love and admiration of his peers, exceptional musicians, singers and songwriters in their own right, is apparent throughout. My collection would not be complete without this soundtrack of "Concert for George"
