iTunes Review

The tunes included on the (500) Days of Summer soundtrack reflect the emotional heights and depths of this wistfully romantic film. Bittersweet pop predominates here, with a little angst added for spice. The Smiths — a key reference point in the movie — set the right tone of obsessive longing with “There is a Light That Never Goes Out” and “Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want.” The latter is transformed into a billowy torch song by She & Him, featuring the film’s co-star Zooey Deschanel. The many complications of true love are captured in the nervous expressions of Regina Spektor (“Us,” “Hero”), the glistening, falsetto-filled effusions of the Temper Trap (“Sweet Disposition”), the brooding blues-rock of Wolfmother (“Vagabond”) and the serene, hook-laden pop of Mumma-Ra (“She’s Got You High”). Meaghan Smith’s beguiling cover of the Pixies’ “Here Comes Your Man” is a special treat. Though many of these songs are available elsewhere, they combine here to create a very appealing Summer music mix.

Customer Reviews

This album so wonderfully accompanies this year's Sundance "Anti-Romance" film. Music plays a key role and the film, and the music is amazing! Get the album because this is one of those soundtracks that is sure to be a timeless classic! You have heard Us, There Is a Light That Never Goes Out, Sweet Disposition and Vagabond on the trailer, but there are so many more awesome songs!! It's good to hear a cover by She & Him as we await their newest album. The movie will also be amazing because Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have a very organic chemistry and are gorgeous!! Buy the soundtrack and see the movie!

Beautiful selection

One of the best movie's I've watched in a long time and one of the best compilations I've heard in a long time. If you like anything by Feist, Cat Power, Hot Chip, Artist of the Year, Bat for Lashes, Chairlift, City and Colour, Datarock, Metric, Modest Mouse, TV on the Radio, Shout Out Louds or the Kills.......this is right up your alley! Enjoy!

Sounds like Summer

Although I have not seen the movie yet (I know I'm killing myself over this), this lovely soundtrack has definitely succeeded in giving us a flavor of summer. Regina Spektor, The Smiths, a bit of Feist... How could this movie possibly be bad if it has all this ear candy in it? Five stars for this masterpiece, I can't wait to see (500) Days of summer :).
