iTunes Review

Fifth-season American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry proved that the show could produce a modern-rock singer thriving outside Idol’s pop-centric margins. Daughtry’s 2006 eponymous debut became the fastest selling debut rock album in Soundscan history. Lead single “It’s Not Over” opens on lilting melancholy chords contrasted with post-grunge guitar distortion as Chris croons in the controlled, throaty growl that he honed while competing on Idol. The similarly catchy “Home” is an emotional power-ballad with dramatic, sweeping string arrangements and an anthemic chorus. “What I Want” kicks out Nickelback-flavored heaviness with impressive guitar work that sounds equally inspired by Soundgarden and Van Halen.

Got excellence written all over it!

I'm just surprised this album hasn't gotten much attention... C'mon guys! Daughtry's awesome! He's got a really sincere voice, which really stands out in Home and Over You. Check it out: HOME: You heard this song all the time for a period on the radio. First time I heard, I listened closer to his voice and thought his voice was really good. Turns out, it was Daughtry, which got me even more excited.^_^ IT'S NOT OVER~ With a touch of desperation in it, this song talks about a guy who struggles with a girl whom he loves. Stuggles through life and their relationship too I presume. In the chorus he's saying that it's not over, that they've gone through too much to stop now. And this sends an excellent message in others genres. Perseverance, in anything, is what gets you places you want to be. That's how I see it. OVER YOU~ This song has a touch of relief in it, especially in chorus when he HITS that note! About a girl who's wasted years of his life, he's talking about what she did to him, and one day how he actually let it go "after all these years putting my heart back together". Beautiful song. FEELS LIKE TONIGHT~ This song is beautiful. Format of a story and its events rolling through the verses, this song makes you really want to sing along, whether you can sing or not. ^_^ WHAT ABOUT NOW~ This song is really hard-core. The general idea is to take any chance you have, "before its too late". But, there's a little more to it. And I think each of the songs in this album have that touch. Complicated is overrated, though. It makes more sense than complicated. So, I hope you get this album, or at least get a few songs by him, because his talent grows on you, and so do these songs. And I think that's pretty cool! ^_^

Building on his start as one of the most popular finalists of American Idol's fifth season, Chris Daughtry's post-Idol career spanned the archetypal modern rock of his early albums to the folk- and dance-tinged territory of 2010s albums such as Baptized. Where Bo Bice proved that American Idol could have a rocker as a finalist, Chris Daughtry proved that the show could generate a successful rocker outside the context of the show. Of course, it helped that he was the polar opposite of Bice, a shaggy...
