Best CDN album of the year?

This was my first Jason Collett album, though I was introduced to him by CBC radio years ago. I say, with great disappointment, that I should have put some effort into hearing him out long ago. His melodies are infectious, and his lyrics are fantastic. There is nothing to dance to on this album, but a whole disc worth of songs to listen to repeatedly. It is a shame that his stories of sadness and love will not find a wider audience, because they are purely human.

Toronto native Jason Collett has earned accolades for his solo albums and tenure with several different bands -- most notably Broken Social Scene -- but it was his association with fellow songwriter Andrew Cash that first garnered him critical acclaim. After performing in the Andrew Cash Band during the late '80s and early '90s, Collett joined up with Ursula, an alternative rock spinoff of Cash's previous group.
