iTunes Review

Melissa Etheridge has always believed that rock ‘n’ roll is best when delivered with the most amount of passion and drama possible. It’s made even her quietest moves sound like a rumble in the jungle. Her love for Bruce Springsteen’s most spine-chilling moments has led her to sing at the top of her powers and even when she settles down for “Indiana,” it’s with the belief that she’s bringing all the lost and forgotten souls along for the ride. Her liberal stance as an out-of-the- closet gay woman is aimed at Carrie Prejean on “Miss California” and her embracing of President Barack Obama is at the heart of “We Are the Ones.” Her critics say she is strident and bombastic, but that is exactly what her fans love about her. She stands up for what she believes in and talks tough no matter the pain behind the scenes. Her strength is how she turns up the volume for the shuffling “Nervous” and the atmospheric “Only Love.” The bonus cuts, the acoustic-based “The Heart of a Woman” and “Away” are actually softer turns at the mic than the official album.

Melissa Rocks again! "Nervous" and "Drag me away" are great rock songs. "Company", "Only Love" and "Away" are beautiful ballads. Love it!

Fearless Love

I have been a fan of Melissa Etheridge since her first self titled LP. In my opinion with each new CD her music just gets better and better. Her songwriting has changed so much over the years she can write beautiful tribute songs like "Scarecrow" or "Tuesday Morning" but, then turn around and produce hard rock tunes like "Giant","Nervous", or "Drag Me Away". There are so few artists like Melissa that have the talent to create such a diverse range of music. If your not very familiar with her music I highly recommend her most recent CD Fearless Love as a good start. A few singles that are most definitely worth checking out are Scarecrow (on the Breakdown CD) which is about the beating and death of Matthew Shephard and Tuesday Morning (on the Lucky CD) which is about United Flight 93 on Tuesday Sept 11 2001. I'm one of those fans that will buy a newly released CD from her without even hearing a single song and I have never been disappointed with any of her CD's. I've seen her in concert a dozen times and I have tickets for an up coming concert in Feb and I'm sitting 3 rows from the stage. If you get a chance to see her live and you've liked her CDs you will love her live show. She plays smaller venues because she likes the more intimate atmosphere it creates. I agree with her decision to make the change I've seen her in a large arena and in smaller venues. The smaller venue shows are far better but that is just my opinion. Melissa Etheridge rocks and I recommend any and all her music to anyone that is unfamiliar with her music.
