Nobody Told Me (There'd Be Songs Like These)

I hope my money went to charity otherwise this was a waste. Much of this sounds uninspired and I don't know why. Is it because only Lennon can do Lennon properly? Is it because I'm a fan of Lennon and the Beatles? Just because you can play a song doesn't mean you can do it justice.

I'm a bigger fan of music than any one artist or group so it's not the latter. Lennon had a style and sound that was unique and you'd never confuse him with anyone so maybe it's more the former.

Good songs? Madrugada, Regina Spektor, Widespread Panic, Paddy Casey, Les Trois Accords are a few (and not the only ones). Widespread Panic is one of the few that really nailed the spirit of the original.

Too many versions of some songs. Imagine is already over-covered by people who have no imagination so why seven more versions. It's like Leonard Cohen's Hallelulah in that it gets covered to death without a whit of heart or understanding. It's more than words.

Strange days indeed.
