iTunes Review

After the massive success of Lauryn Hill’s 1998 solo debut, it would be nearly four years before the elusive neo-soul icon released her eagerly anticipated second coming. MTV Unplugged No. 2.0 was a bracing change in tone: an epic live recording of rough-hewn tracks that hover between hip-hop and folk, bridged by unvarnished spoken interludes. From her emotion-fractured voice on “I Get Out” to the hesitant fingerpicked patterns on “I Gotta Find Peace of Mind,” it’s hard not to be swept away by Hill’s rawness here.

Honest Review

This album is VERY raw. Lauryn's voice is not what it used to be but the lyrics to these songs are what makes this album worth it. Her rhymes can be matched by no one. Truly an enlightening album by an artist who tells it like it is, in the most poetic way you'll ever hear the truth. 'I Get Out' is a perfectly written depiction of conformity, and is one of my favorites. 'Mystery of Iniquity' is some of the best spoken/rapped song EVER. If you don't by the whole album, those songs are a must have!

This is honesty on record. It expresses a yearning to just cut past the BS, the glitter, the masquerade, and see humanity for what it is. With her exceptional talent Lauryn Hill uses her poetry to reveals the vulnerability and hope we can all experience. Exceptional.

Lauryn Hill broke through with multi-platinum-selling, Grammy-winning group the Fugees, but with her 1998 solo debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, the singer, songwriter, rapper, and producer established herself as a creative force on her own. She successfully integrated rap, soul, and reggae into a singular sound. Eclectic, uplifting, and empowering, the album was often cited by younger artists as a touchstone. Following its success, Hill was something of an enigma, her recorded output limited...
