Jamison

Jamison

He may have come to the jazz world’s attention as a drummer, thanks to his win behind the kit at the 2012 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, but here, with his opening take on Muddy Waters’ “Deep Down in Florida," Jamison Ross shows that he can also sing the blues. (Jon Batiste’s guest piano playing gives the performance extra pep.) Over the course of the set, Ross ranges freely, engaging in throwback soul, classic balladry, gospel touches, and some contemporary soul fillips. And yes, he shows off those famous drum chops, too.
