Listen, why are you all so focused on the artists in the song? It isn't about them. It is about the lyrics and the message behind them. As a survivor myself, I am truly horrified that you would rather complain about how much each woman got to sing, rather than sit and listen to what they are saying. Cancer is a disease that we can stop, and songs like this that bring awareness are a true blessing, and I thank each artist that participated, no matter how small the part, in an effort to show their support.
It's good, but a few complaints...
First, it seems as if voices like Beyonce dominated the song, but I thought this was an ensemble? Many artists rarely got a chance to sing! Secondly, many will be fooled by artist talents like Natasha Bedingfield, Carrie Underwood, and Ciara, this is NOT a pop song, it is nearing gospel, not that there is anything wrong with that, but some will be misled. My third and largest complaint is... what did they do to Miley Cyrus? The girl's voice is so powerful and raw, but they make her sound like a little school girl in this song? I am sorry, but that is really unfair for fans who hoped to hear her, but instead, heard what the producers thought would sell. Overall, a good, solid track, worth it because it is charity, but it won't be a hit. And next time, make everyone have an equal part, rather than Fergie, Beyonce, Rihanna, and Mary J Blige taking most vocals!
A Great Song With An Equally Great Message
This compilation of 15 of today's best female singers, delivers a very strong track, that will have you on your feet. If buying this song due to the great quality of singers on it isn't enough, the aid to cancer research should be. The song has an infectious hook and chorus, with meaningful lyrics. One of my dislikes of this record is simple. Certain artists are overplayed and some are not heard enough. Through the record there is only really 4 or 5 distinct voices that have more than a few words to sing, such as Beyonce with the leading verse. Yet Mariah Carey for example, has two lines... two quick lines. I would have liked to see a more equal-sharing of the lyrics, especially to the more veteran artists, like Melissa Etheridge and Mariah. As well, what did they do to Miley's voice... it sounds like a computer. One of the awe-inspiring moments to listen to is towards the end of the song, you can hear Mariah's famous whistle throughout the ending of the song, starting at 2:35.
