Album Review

Composers Hans Zimmer and John Powell infuse the score for Dreamworks' 2008 animated comedy-adventure Kung Fu Panda with plenty of semi-traditional Asian motifs and instrumentation, resulting in an enjoyable — if entirely predictable — soundtrack that deals out clichés like candy on Halloween. The opening track introduces the "Hero" theme, a wistful flute-led melody that sounds nearly identical to Howard Shore's "Hobbit" theme from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. What follows is largely orchestral, with bursts of tribal percussion and the occasional dance number. The soundtrack closes with star Jack Black and Cee-Lo Green performing "Kung Fu Fighting," a song whose inclusion is apparently mandatory for every film, commercial, or skit ever made involving Asian culture.

Great Combo!

It's great to see two great composers like John Powell and Hans Zimmer working together to create another great movie soundtrack. They both combined their unique sound and style to create a fine series of compositions that suit the movie and add character. Well done.

It rocks da kung fu outta me!!!!! lol

The best song is Kung fu fighting!!!!!! it kung fu's your head up!! ;)

Solid Kung Fu Romp

If you are looking based on the sound samples beware one thing, the track Hero is not all action music like the sample... OK with that one thing out of the way... Kung Fu Panda is a great light action score from Powell and Zimmer, If you like Powell's other Dreamworks animated scores but wish they were beefed up a little then throw in some asian instruments and you've got Kunf Fu Panda. Although I'm not generally a Zimmer fan this score filled with some great sweeping moments and awsome action that pleases the Powell fan in me Kung Fu Panda may not be one of the classics but it's got a theme you remember and it's still a great listen. Which, unfortunatlly, is more then you can say for alot of film scores these days.
