Usually, when a box set of this magnitude is produced and marketed by an artist of Jacques Brel's magnitude and legend, among the hits and familiar tunes are dozens of questionable choices. That is not the case here. 100 Plus Belles Chansons contains five discs ranging from the beginning to the all-too-soon ending of Brel's storied career. He recorded often and performed even more. This set serves not only as a detailed introduction to the great singer and songwriter, but also as a defining one. These choices are all inarguable, even if there could have been many more. While all of Brel's albums are worth owning, this set will be enough even for serious fans.
