Balancing a pointed political agenda with the frenetic, multi-voiced hyperactivity of the Beastie Boys and Cypress Hill, Loco Locass champion the liberation of their home province of Quebec on their 2000 debut. Francophilia is front and center, as the group offset danceable, offbeat rap tracks like “Mes enfants…” with fierce, militant fare like “Langage-toi.” They’re equally outspoken about Israel’s politics, but Loco Locass imbue their manifestos with a joyous sense of anarchy, resulting in an album that’s as catchy as it is uncompromising.

A stridently political rap group from Montreal, Québec, Loco Locass formed as Koubraüss and underwent a number of name changes -- from Les Locos Loquaces to Locos Locass -- prior to settling on their permanent name.
