Great album

I love this album! Buy it now!

A surprise find

I'm not one who loves gushing reviews simply saying that everything on a record is excellent, but this is one of those rare, rare albums where all 14 songs are keepers. Even "flaws" that you might pick up on after the first couple of listens, like the way "First Floor People" takes so long to get moving, or the sparseness in the production of "Get Up", eventually turn out to be pleasant surprises, once given enough listens. "Falling out of Trees" really does set the mood; a song in two halves, demonstrating both the softness and beauty their sound offers, and also the technicality and overall emotion behind every bar of music. Production is flawless, the fella's voice is fantastic to say the least, and the music, while some of it might be classed as "poppy", is definetly pop for musicans who hate pop (myself being one of them). It's just amazing. And dang, is it ever catchy. I defy anyone who does not have the chorus from "It's About Time" stuck in their head for weeks after hearing it. Even the bonus track, "Time to Mend", seems strangely in place, and finishes the album off nicely, although "Please Don't Go" would have managed fine all by itself. I had high expectations from hearing clips, but thought I would only enjoy half of it. I was wrong. Well worth the purchase, in my humble opinion.

the slower rhythms and delicacy of Fennell's voice is soo perfect with the piano pieces in the background. i love it. i'd recommend at least giving them a thorough listen, if not a download.

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '00s

Seattle-based trio Barcelona make passionate, melodic music that mixes elements of dance, electronica, and indie pop. Formed in 2005, Barcelona grew out of lead singer/songwriter Brian Fennel's solo material (featured on 2005's Safety Songs) after he paired with guitarist/vocalist Chris Bristol and drummer Rhett Stonelake. Initially, the trio focused on a more acoustic indie pop sound, an approach they showcased on their 2007 debut, Absolutes, and 2012 sophomore effort, Not Quite Yours. In 2013,...
