Album Review

With Colbie Caillat and Sara Bareilles topping the charts, the market is ripe in 2008 for a solo artist like Brendan James. The New Hampshire native wields a sensitive voice and competent piano chops, while his songs brim with the same sort of adult contemporary hooks that orchestrate episodes of Grey's Anatomy. James maintains a relaxed pace and sticks to leisurely tales of childhood, small-town life, and botched relationships, with a handful of nature metaphors ("Early April Morning" signifies rebirth; "The Sun Will Rise" represents faith) peppering the mix. There's certainly an audience for such easygoing material, and some listeners might find James' gauzy debut to be perfect background music.

Customer Reviews

Worth the wait!

Brendan's album is wonderful! I have listened to it all the way through and love each and every song. I think we'll be seeing more of Brendan in the future and I can't wait!

Raw and Beautiful! Thank-you!

Brendan's first album, The Day is Brave is raw and beautiful. I have never felt compelled to write a review before but his talent must be recognized. Brendan plays the piano with much elegance and maturity, which only compliments his powerful voice. His lyrics are strong, heartfelt and extremely intelligent. The Day Is Brave is polished and sophisticated which makes it hard to believe that this is his first album. If this album is any indication of his success in the future, Brendan will find longevity in a career that so many struggle to succeed in. Congratulations to him and those who have helped him create this piece of art! Thank-you!

Great - every song

From start to finish, these songs have emotion, they are light and deep at the same time. Great sunday afternoon music or taking a long walk with your dog music!!

He wrote songs during his stay in California and returned to Chapel Hill in 2002, where he graduated from college...
